Establishing Dispensations:
A certain order, system, or arrangement; administration or management.
The divine ordering of the affairs of the world, an appointment, arrangement, or favor by God.
A divinely appointed order or age: the old Mosaic, or Jewish, dispensation; the new gospel, or Christian, dispensation, a dispensing with, doing away with, or doing without something.
Paul Establishes a new administration:
1Co_14:37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
2Co_12:1 It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.
Rom_3:21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
Eph_3:2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:
Rom_11:13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
In order to understand scripture so that it does not confuse the reader, one has to understand first that the Bible is not one big continuous narrative.
Think of it as a readers digest , a compilation of various on-topic stories contained in one volume of work.
The Bible has specific divisions in it regarding the the content , the context and the audience.
2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
–Miles Coverdale, Prologue to the 1535 Coverdale Bible
“It shall greatly help thee to understand Scripture, if thou mark, not only what is spoken or written, but of whom, and to whom, with what words, at what time, where, to what intent, with what circumstances, considering what goeth before and what followeth after.”
As the apostle Paul instructs:
2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
The Apostle Paul Tells us in the Epistle Of 2nd Timothy that when we study scripture we must properly divide it in order to understand it. Obviously that declaration of being ashamed is the result at the judgment seat of Christ when we misunderstand or miss-apply while teaching others the scriptures. In order to teach from it we must not confuse the audience by miss-applying information that is not intended for them. If we correctly teach and pass on the information we wont be ashamed when we meet God face to face. Yes most people, preachers, churches and religious leaders will be ASHAMED at that day because they did not adhere to Paul’s instruction in that passage. You dont need to be a theologian or a rocket scientist to Read scripture Literally and correctly. Most people want to be spoon fed their scripture by a pastor a priest or a commentary. Most of the time they never check to see if the information is any good or if it is being applied correctly.
Quick real world example:
Say you worked at Rochester Products in the 1980’s. Lets say that you found a memo with department changes written to Kodak employees from 1975. First off you dont work at Kodak, second those department changes have nothing to do with you or your company and thirdly its not 1975.
With that being said the whole Bible is written to different people with different instructions for different ages and at different periods of time. Imagine if you were to take 2 different employee handbooks from 2 different companies written 20 years apart and tried to make them one operational manual for a workforce..LOL it would not make any sense and would be rife with errors and contradictions that would make no sense to the reader rendering it useless.
Everyone divides some of the bible:
There is 1 main division in scripture that is universally accepted “The old and new Testaments”
What most people don’t realize and most churches do not teach is that there are more divisions in scripture which can lead to unbelievable confusion if not pointed out. The fact that most people have no idea how and where the divisions are is what causes the massive confusion and shear volume of different belief systems.
Error in doctrine , Theology and Eschatology Come From Not Knowing Your Scriptures
Mar_12:24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
God is not the Author of confusion and wrote that book to be understood by the common Man,
1Co_14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints
So what other divisions could there possibly be? Lets Look
The Bible is a library of sixty-six different books written in different languages (Hebrew, Caldean and Greek, Finally In English the latter predominate language of the Earthly population), written in various countries (Judea, Babylon, Asia Minor, Greece and Italy), written in various times during a period stretching over about fifteen hundred years and with an intermission of about 400 years, written by forty different authors, written to Jews and Gentiles Ultimately written to the whole world.
A compilation of Different narratives with one central theme amazingly written at different times by different people to compile one book that has withstood the test of time and its attempted destruction by Satan and Man
We are going to focus on the divisions of the New testament scriptures in this study
The divisions in the New Testament are as follows.
The new testament is comprised of 27 different books
13 books written to the nation of Israel ;
Mathew, Mark, Luke, John, Hebrews, James, 1Peter 2nd Peter 1st John 2nd John 3rd John, Jude, Revelation
13 books Written by the 13th Apostle To the Gentiles and Jews beleivers:
Romans, 1st Corinthians, 2nd Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1st Thessalonians, 2nd Thessalonians, 1st Timothy, 2nd Timothy, Titus, Philemon.
One Transitional Book that lays out the change of administration or Dispensation between the 27 books
THE BOOK OF ACTS,
The main cause of confusion in the current age or Dispensation of Grace is the mixing of scriptures that apply to Israel with scriptures written to You and I, GENTILES.
These divisions are actually clearly identified in the scriptures.
Here are Some examples of Who was sent to who and with what message.
Jesus Mission And Message And Instruction to the 12 apostles was to go to the Jews and Preach The Kingdom:
Mat 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
Mat 10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Mat 10:7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Mat_15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Jesus Mission And Message And Instruction to (The 13th Apostle) Paul was to Preach The Dispensation Of The Age Of Grace to the Gentiles:
Act 22:21 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.
Rom_11:13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
Gal_2:2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.
Eph_3:8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
YES THERE WAS MORE THAN 12 APOSTLES. Paul Was The 13th Apostle Named in Scripture to carry out the commission set forth by Jesus Christ to the World.
How can I prove that? Well Judas was among the 12 , Betrayed Jesus and was replaced in Acts. In order to be numbered with the 12 you needed to be an eye witness of Jesus Christ while He Was Alive
Act 1:21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
Act 1:22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.
Act 1:26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. (11+1 =12 folks)
(NEVER GOING TO HEAR THAT AT A CATHOLIC CHURCH)
HERE are some scriptures that can get you confused if you mix the message and the audience up:
JAMES Writing to Jewish Kingdom believers
How do we know who was he Speaking to?
Jas 1:1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
What was his message
Jewish Believers Saved by a system of obedience to the law and works
Jas 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
Jas 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
Jas 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
Jas 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
Jas 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
Jas 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
Jas 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
Jas 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
PETER writing to the Jews that were scattered abroad
1Pe 1:1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
How do we know who those strangers are?
Mat_26:31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
Act_8:1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.
Act_11:19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.
What was Peters message?
Act 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
Act 10:35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
2Pe 3:15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
2Pe 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
The Apostle Paul Speaking to Christians in the Age Of Grace
Rom 16:25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
Rom_4:6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
Rom 4:4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
Rom 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Tit_3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
So are we left to ourselves determine which of these instructions apply to our Christian walk today? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
When it came to matters of faith and instruction The apostles had to know how to speak to whom and this matter came up several times throughout Peter and Paul’s ministry.
If the 12 apostles and Paul were preaching different things as we have seen, they most certainly would have had to acknowledge this to each other or they would have been spreading confusion in the church. So where did this meeting of the minds take place?
Act 15:1 And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
Act 15:2 When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.
Act 15:5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
Act 15:10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
Act 15:13 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
Act 15:19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
Act 15:20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
Act 15:24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:
Act 21:20 And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law:
Act 21:21 And they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.
Act 21:25 As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.
Gal 2:1 Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also.
Gal 2:2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.
Gal 2:3 But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:
Gal 2:4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:
Gal 2:5 To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.
Gal 2:6 But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man’s person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me:
Gal 2:7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
Gal 2:8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
Gal 2:11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.
Gal 2:12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
Gal 2:13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
Gal 2:14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
Gal 2:15 We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
WHAT ABOUT PROSTELYTES
And in case some of your were wondering about Jews and gentiles in both audiences . YES there were Jews and gentiles in both. So how do you apply Jewish kingdom scriptures to a Gentile believer in the a Jewish audience? Simple.
A Gentile believer that practiced Judaism was called a Proselyte and usually resided in Jerusalem
WIKEPEDIA
A Proselyte was a Gentile who has converted to Judaism, is bound to all the doctrines and precepts of the Jewish economy, and is considered a full member of the Jewish people.
Act_2:10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
Act_13:43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
What about a Jew that was in Paul’s Audience.
Well they are considered members of the Body Of Christ
(Co_12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular) part of the One New Man.
After the Change in Dispensation (RULES) God Knocked down the Barrier between Jew and Greek
that separated us from the Promises given to Israel. Making us All One In Christ.
IN CHRIST THERE IS NEITHER JEWISH OR GENTILE DISTINCTION
Gal_3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Eph 2:11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Eph 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
Eph 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
Eph 2:16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
Eph 2:17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
Eph 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Eph 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God
The biggest problem with all of this is when People, Preachers, Priests and (Know-It-Alls) get a hold of passages that don’t agree with each other and instead of determining why, they Spiritualize the passage.
They literally will tell you that it means “this or that” instead of what it actually says.
WHAT A CROCK!
WHY DONT YOU FIND OUT WHY PASSAGES APPEAR TO BE A CONTRADICTION AND STOP TRYING TO RECONCILE OR REASON IT AWAY
The Bible is written LITERALLY not Allegorically or open to private interpretation.
When Jesus speaks in parables or allegories He actually declares it FIRST so you know whats coming.
2Pe_1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
Mat_13:53 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence
Here some examples:
